ValkyonHQ:Featured articles

From Valkyon Headquarters
Jump to: navigation, search

A featured article is an article that can be considered to be the best ValkyonHQ has to offer. Any article published in the main namespace is eligible to be featured based on a certain criteria and the feedback of the ValkyonHQ community. From all these chosen articles a small excerpt is taken and included within a rotation into the main page in order to be shown to the community on a daily basis.

Nominating an article to be featured is as easy as following the following steps: Make sure you have logged in, pick what you think is an exceptional article that meets the criteria, propose it to be a featured article and let the community vote it. If past a certain amount of time the article is indeed considered exceptional it will be included in the rotation!

[edit] Criteria

Being an example of our best articles, a featured article must have certain attributes and fit strict criteria in order to be eligible:

1. It has to be—

  1. well-written: its prose is engaging, even brilliant, and of a professional standard;
  2. comprehensive: it neglects no major facts or details and places the subject in context;
  3. well-researched: it is a thorough and representative survey of the relevant literature;
  4. neutral: it presents views fairly and without bias; and
  5. stable: it is not subject to on-going edit wars and its content will not change significantly.

2. It must contain—

  1. a good lead: a concise lead section that summarizes the topic and prepares the reader for the detail in the subsequent sections;
  2. an appropriate structure: a system of hierarchical section headings and a substantial but not overwhelming table of contents; and
  3. consistent citations: where required by criterion 1.3, consistently formatted inline citations using well-documented footnotes.

3. Media: It has images and other media where appropriate, with succinct captions and utmost quality.

4. Length: It stays focused on the main topic without going into unnecessary detail but still very exhaustive on its subject.

[edit] Nomination

Nominating an article to be featured is simple yet it requires the editor to carry out a few simple steps. Nomination proposals are done through the Discussion page including:

Note: Unsigned anonymous proposals will be ignored, cleared and removed from the proposal listing. However, unformatted proposals might be fixed to fit the standard pattern.

1. The article’s title: add a new topic including a link to the article as its title;

2. Feedback: briefly tell us why the article has to be promoted to featured; and

3. Your signature: sign your proposal with ~~~~.

[edit] Voting

The community can vote a nomination proposal by providing their feedback plus signature. Unlike proposals, it is not compulsory to add your signature while voting, although it is really encouraged to do so. The voting time might vary depending on how active is the community, being a week if there is significant activity and three weeks if it is not that substantial.

[edit] Revision and removal

Over the course of time and game updates an article might not fit the criteria at its best and might need to be reviewed again. If that happened, add a new comment on its consequent nomination proposal and the community will be invited to review the case again. If the community agrees that the article it is not eligible anymore it will be removed from the rotation, improved and nominated again in the future.
